...could it have been HOW you asked me...
...or could it have been WHAT you asked me...
...maybe it's WHEN you asked me...
all i know is that YOU'RE ON FUCKIN' CRACK...
Interesting post up on slashdot today called "The Way the Music Died" (in reference to Don McLean's American Pie - which is a lyrical masterpiece; here's an absolutely brilliant break-down of the song, line-by-line) - in typical slashdot fashion everyone pretty much blames "The Man" ("The Man" being the RIAA or the big 5 record labels, take your pick), but the point that everyone seems to miss is that MTV and the radio are not the only sources of music out there, and they do *not* define Music as a whole. You can walk into damn near any club or bar with live music and find some truly great grooves. Hell, there's great music for sale too - go down to Berkeley to the Rasputin records there... there's 3 or 4 really great music stores right around each other, and there's hella people there that will turn you on to shit you've never heard of, but will no doubt dig once you give it a chance.
Now Euro-electronica... that's a whole 'nother story worthy of its own post... I'm so damn sick of the mindless thump-snare-thump-snare-generic chick sings a few lines-thump-snare-thump-snare-lines repeated-thump-snare-thump-snare shit that I can't even put it into words. It's kewl to dance to at a club (or to sit and tap your foot to if you can't dance - like me), but I just don't see the appeal of doing the seat-dance to this shit while in your daily commute. Funny thing though - I see mad old people (like 60+) fuqin BLARING hard house while cruisin down the street.. funniest shit I've ever seen I tell ya.
Anyhow, music as a whole is not fucking dead - you only have to get up off your ass and go get it.. just like anything else in life. :)
